It is unique to be a designer in the journalism world. Most people recommend going into advertising instead. I chose to be a journalist to not just learn how to be a designer. I wanted to learn the ins and outs of a newsroom, to experience interviewing sources, working with a printer during late night final checks and watching photojournalists edit images.
My journalism career so far has taken me many places. From interning in the art department at San Diego Magazine, to winning an Associate Collegiate Press Pacemaker for my work on the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism’s magazine FLUX. I am currently jumping into the world of publication design in New York City.
